US Roads To Recovery

This trip has been a long time in incubation and many plans have had to be aborted to fit the realities of time schedules and expense. What is left is a journey that will take me all the way across the USA from Boston to Los Angeles visiting a variety of addiction treatment centres in an effort to observe and understand some of the methods and initiatives used in the American addiction recovery world.

The journey, the opportunity to learn, and the privilege to report on my experience would never have been possible without the challenge, support and money so generously gifted by The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust, and I leave tomorrow for five weeks of inquiry and observation under the rather grand soubriquet of ‘Travelling Fellow’.

I shall travel in the spirit of fellowship, and hope that I shall be able to report, as Sir Winston said: “I always seem to get inspiration and renewed vitality by contact with this great novel land of yours which sticks up out of the Atlantic.”
